Pour un circuit parcouru par un courant d'intensité constante \(\mathsf{I}\) et placé dans un champ magnétostatique extérieur \(\stackrel{\hookrightarrow}{B_{\mathrm{ext}}}\) et pour une translation élémentaire \(\mathrm d\mathsf{x}\) parallèle à l'axe \(\mathsf{Ox}\) ou une rotation élémentaire \(\mathrm{d}\alpha\) autour de l'axe \(\mathsf{Ox}\), la composante sur l'axe \(\mathsf{Ox}\), \(\vec F\) à laquelle est soumis le circuit et la composante sur l'axe \(\mathsf{Ox}\) du moment \(\stackrel{\hookrightarrow}{\mathcal{M}}(O)\) de cette force ont pour expression :

\(F_x = I\frac{∂\Phi}{∂x}~~\) et \(~~\mathcal{M}_{\alpha} = I\frac{∂\Phi}{∂\alpha}\)
