Soient \(\mathcal A=(a_{i,j}) \)et \(\mathcal B=(b_{i,j})\) deux matrices appartenant à \(M_{n,p}(\mathbf K)\).
\(\displaystyle{\mathcal A+\mathcal B=(c_{i,j})_{\begin{array}{cccccc}1\leq i\leq n\\1\leq j\leq p\end{array}}}\) avec
\(\displaystyle{\forall i,1\leq i\leq n,\forall j,1\leq j\leq p,\quad c_{i,j}=a_{i,j}+b_{i,j}}\)
Autrement dit \(\lambda\mathcal A=(d_{i,j})_{\begin{array}{cccccc}1\leq i\leq n\\1\leq j\leq p\end{array}}\) avec
\(\displaystyle{\forall i,1\leq i\leq n,\forall j,1\leq j\leq p,\quad d_{i,j}=\lambda a_{i,j}}\)
\(\forall(\mathcal A,\mathcal B)\in\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K)\times\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K),\mathcal A+\mathcal B=\mathcal B+\mathcal A\)
L'addition est associative :
\(\forall(\mathcal A,\mathcal B,\mathcal C)\in[\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K)]^3,\quad(\mathcal A+\mathcal B)+\mathcal C=\mathcal A(\mathcal B+\mathcal C)\)
\(\forall(\alpha,\beta)\in\mathbf K^2,\forall\mathcal A\in\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K),\alpha(\beta\mathcal A)=(\alpha\beta)\mathcal A\)
\(\forall(\alpha,\beta)\in\mathbf K^2,\forall\mathcal A\in\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K),(\alpha+\beta)\mathcal A=(\alpha+\beta)\mathcal A\)
\(\forall\mathcal A\in\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K),\quad1\mathcal A=\mathcal A\)
\(\forall\alpha\in\mathbf K,\forall(\mathcal A,\mathcal B)\in\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K)\times\mathcal M_{n,p}(\mathbf K),\alpha(\mathcal A+\mathcal B)=\alpha\mathcal A+\alpha\mathcal B\)
