R corps commutatif totalement ordonné
Sur \(\mathbb R\) la relation \(\leq\) est une relation d'ordre total, ce qui signifie que deux éléments quelconques de \(\mathbb R\) sont comparables ou encore que deux réels \(x \textrm{ et }y\) vérifient \(x\leq y \textrm{ ou }y\leq x\) . Cette relation d'ordre total prolonge celle de \(\mathbb Q\).
On note \(\displaystyle{\mathbb R_+=\{x\in\mathbb R,x\geq 0\},\mathbb R^*_+=\{x\in\mathbb R,x>0\}}\).
Définition :
La \(\underline{\textrm{relation d'ordre}} \leq\) est compatible avec la structure algébrique (corps) de \(\mathbb R\).
Ce qui signifie:
\(\forall x\in\mathbb R,\forall y\in\mathbb R,\forall z\in\mathbb R\;x\leq y\iff x+z\leq y+z\)
en particulier \(\displaystyle{x\leq y\iff y-x\geq 0}\)
\(\forall x\in\mathbb R,\forall y\in\mathbb R,\forall z\in\mathbb R_+^* \; x\leq y\iff xz\leq yz\)
